Navigating the world of work | Career in corporate!

Today I am joined by Boniwe Dunster, who is a HR specialist. We had such a good conversation on navigating the workplace! She answered some of the following questions:

1. What information should you include in your CV?
2. What is the most common mistake young people make on their CV's?
3. How does one answer "why should we hire you?"
4. Should you accept the first offer they give you?
5. Why do recruiters ask for your current payslip? Should you do this? Or is there a way not to give them your current payslip? (There is potential to be lowballed)
6. How do you know if you are getting paid a fair salary when many company's policies are to NOT discuss your pay with colleagues?
7. How does one deal with rejection and not get disheartened while seeking employment?
8. Should you tick all the boxes of a job description before you apply?
9. When should you ask for a raise? And how?
10. If you are denied a salary increase, what should you do next?
11. How does one build a personal brand within a company?
12. Is job hopping a bad thing?
13. How can you deal with jealous colleagues as a top performer?
14. How can one deal with a toxic work environment? Bullying in the workplace (effects: stress, low self-esteem, etc) and how to build your confidence?
15. Tips to deal with imposter syndrome in the workplace?
16. Social media: should you follow colleagues on social media? Does what you post matter?

Our Deepest Fear
By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
Note: This inspiring poem is taken from Marianne Williamson's book A Return to Love.
