The Daily Procession at the Holy Sepulchre

The Daily Procession led by the Franciscans in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre at 4:00 pm owes its origins to the ancient liturgies of the Jerusalem church described by the famous pilgrim, Egeria (ca. 392-394).
Later mention of this procession is to be found in the fourteenth century in accounts that note that it took place on certain days and under certain circumstances.

Each station allowed for moments of meditation recalling particular aspects of the Passion:
I. At the Altar of the Most Blessed Sacrament
II. At the Pillar of the Scourging of the Lord
III. At the Prison
IV. At the Altar of the Division of Christ’s Garments
V. At the Crypt of the Finding of the Cross
VI. At the Chapel of St. Helen
VII. At the Pillar of the Crowning with Thorns and of the Reproachess
VIII. At the place where Jesus was nailed to the Cross
IX. At the place where Christ died on the Cross
X. At the Altar of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Sorrows
XI. At the Site of the anointing
XII. XII. At the Glorious Sepulchre of our Lord Jesus Christ
XIII. The place where Christ appeared to Mary Magdalene
XIV. At the Chapel of the Apparition of the Risen Christ to his Mother Mary
