China says US making 'mistake' after Biden invites Taiwan to democracy summit

China and Russia have accused the United States of trying to divide the world. Both have hit out after being left out of a democracy summit being organised by US President Joe Biden. However, Taiwan is on the guest list, prompting further outrage from Beijing. 110 governments have been invited to Washington's first-ever democracy summit. The virtual Summit for Democracy, which takes place online on Dec 9 and 10, is aimed at promoting freedoms and human rights worldwide.
