Bruce Vidal (KIIS - FM 102.7) Laurie Allen (KMGG - FM 105.9) - 1985

In early 1985, Hour Magazine (syndicated,) did a profile on “Married D.J.’s;” Bruce Vidal and Laurie Allen. In fact, it was a marriage that had the couple competing against each other in the same time slot; post drive time 6 PM – 10 PM. Bruce was on KIIS-FM (102.7 Los Angeles,) and Laurie on “Magic 106,” (105.9 FM – KMGG.)

At the time, KIIS-FM ‘owned’ the L.A. airwaves with a 10 share in the market, whereas “Magic 106” was on the verge of changing formats, call letters, on air branding very soon due to poor, long term trainings. In 1986, KIIS-FM remained the dominating force and “Magic 106,” became “Power 106!” (KPWR-FM.)

As it turns out, the happy “DJ” couple separated a year after the broadcast (1986,) and divorced in 1990. The 300 pound Vidal died at 54 of diabetes on December 17, 2002. Laurie is still in LA radio, at “Go Country 105 FM” (105.1 FM KKGO.)
