While the number of people that filed initial unemployment claims fell, the amount of people still collecting unemployment benefits continues to alarm experts.

Another 1.5 million Americans filed initial unemployment claims, bringing the number of people currently collecting unemployment benefits to 20.5 million.

But with the focus of financial experts dead set on Reopening America, these shocking numbers could mean a shift of attention back to unemployment problems.

If unemployment numbers continue to stay high, the government may be forced to take action and pass additional enhanced unemployment programs through another stimulus package.

This could include bumping that weekly $600 FPUC benefit until the end of the year!

While no official measures have been announced to extend the $600 enhanced unemployment benefits, efforts have been introduced to extend weekly payments of $400 past July 31st.

With Republicans claiming that weekly $600 unemployment payments should not continue due to their high price tag, a new proposal hopes to bridge the gap and still provide assistance that doesn’t cut off at the end of July.

While I’d love to see those weekly $600 FPUC benefits extended through the end of the year, I don’t think the Senate is going to allow that to happen.

A compromise of $400 a week makes sense to me, as weekly payments of $400 from the Fed and $200-500 from state unemployment insurance could help millions of people keep their finances afloat until the end of the year.

I hope these alarming unemployment numbers show Congress how badly people need these disaster relief funds.

I want to give a shout out to all of you that have commented from Arkansas, North Carolina, Iowa, Florida, Texas, Nevada, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Tennessee and Washington.

If you are still waiting for PUA funds in your state, it’s important that you stay patient and committed, as you are entitled to these benefits and will receive your funds eventually.

Remember, if you are a gig-worker, self employed, independent contractor or 1099 worker, you could be eligible for over $10,000 in PUA money.

Don’t give up and keep calling your state’s unemployment hotline to ensure that you get paid for the CARES Act disaster relief funds that you deserve.

The PUA and state unemployment programs vary incredibly from state to state and I’m incredibly grateful that all of you are willing to share your experiences with me and the channel.
