These guys have made fun of the Police elsewhere. Perhaps the best example is a movie called Wilt, with Griff Rhys Jones as Henry Wilt and Mel Smith as bumbling Inspector Flint.
Wilt: "... low intelligence of the average Police officer"
Flint: "You're inferring we're all thick!"
Wilt: "No, I'm _implying_ it, _you_'re inferring it."
