How to make deer toe shakers

The Chickasaws along with other south eastern tribes Stomp Dance as their traditional dancing when we do this the women keep the rhythm by shakers tied to their legs while the men sing.  Deer toes are the oldest style of shakers. The other styles include turtle shells which are always made from female turtles and milk cans we are very resourceful people so we use what we had most available to us for our shakers. There are 132 deer toes per leg on these. The majority of these toes were obtained by local deer processing companies that also didn’t want them to go to waste as well as friends and family that hunt and give me their feet.
