Magic Nights (1932)

Full titles read: "Now for a topical excerpt of Charles B. Cochran's famous Cabaret Show at the Trocadero, London, W. "Magic Nights" - Filmed during the actual performance."
London.
The stage curtain of the Trocadero, showing a fabulous 1930s design (very Clarice Cliff), is pulled back. In a cabaret act called 'Radio Stations', we see several showgirls walking onto a stage and posing in elaborate costumes that represent radio stations of capital cities around the world; they all hold microphones. We also see the girls backstage before they make their entrances - great footage. The showgirls then come down from the stage and walk about between the tables where the audience sits.
We then see The Valve Girls - a tap dancing troupe in skimpy costumes who dance to a fast jazz tune. Next act is magician Frakson; while the orchestra plays 'The Peanut Vendor' he tears a sheet of newspaper into sections, then opens it to show it is intact. A ballet sequence follows; the dancers are wearing costumes of the 1800s. Several cutaways during this whole item show people sitting at tables, watching the show.
More dancing from a line of chorus girls in spangled costumes and black tights - they are obviously dancing to a tune much faster than the one that is on the soundtrack. Brief shots of girls getting into costumes of guards with busby hats, then marching on stage to perform a kind of tap version of the Changing of the Guards. At the end they salute and the curtain is drawn across the stage.
(Followed by Pathetone end titles.)
