How to Make a Tractor Safer on Hills

If you run your tractor in an area with a lot of hills you need to be aware of the danger of tractor rollover. Most modern tractors have a system in place that could drastically reduce the danger and if you're new to tractors you may not even know it's there. And that is the capability of widening the "footprint" of your tractor by moving the tires and wheels out. This video will show you two similar tractors with drastically different tread widths and how they were changed.

By changing the position of where the hub is bolted on to the rim, on many tractors it is possible to set the wheels out much wider, making the tractor much safer on a slope. On some tractors the rims are welded, so multiple tire tread settings can't be made. But even on those tractors, if the offset of the rim is different, if you'll switch sides with the wheels, it'll give you a wider footprint.

Consult your owner's manual to see what is possible on your particular set up, you might be surprised that you can increase your tractor's stability greatly and it won't cost you a dime.
