Maya Plisetskaya & Nicolas Economou: Dance Impressions (Improvisation VI)

This fascinating interaction between dance and music was recorded 1990 in studio with prima ballerina assoluta Maya Plisetskaya and pianist Nicolas Economou. Taking his cue from Plisetskaya’s movements and the moods she creates with her fanciful characterisation, Economou improvises at the piano. Together they create a spontaneously expressive presentation in sound and vision.

"Life is fascinating, because it is constantly changing. Perpetually being in motion, it can never reach completeness. A work of art that is complete is unalterable and in fact dead. A work of art can only stay alive if by improvising we give it back it's own life. Artists improvise within a given space - even if no bigger than that between hand and glove."
