Today we are unboxing another well BALANCED Spinnaker. the Fleuss Mecaquartz Chronograph. Spinnaker often makes watches with weird proportions or crazy sizes, but sometimes they get the proportions and the design right, and this to me feels like one of these models.
I wish it was just slightly smaller than 43mm, but I would be lying if I sad it is too large.
The subdials are perfectly distanced from each other and perfectly sized for the diameter of the watch.
The movement powering this thing is a true Mecaquartz from the Seiko VK family, the same one they used on the Hull Chronograph.
It is the most complicated version adding the Big Date complication and a 24 hour or AM/PM indicator.
The chronograph action is snappy and very mechanical in feel, especially the reset, which combined with a sweeping chronograph second makes it a one of favorite quartz movements among watch enthusiasts.
With a price of $260 for the strap and $315 for the bracelet version it is a pretty good value, especially considering the "real" price is lower by 20% after discount (code: watchgeek20).
Not only is it a pretty decent chronograph movement, but the watch also comes with a sapphire crystal, AND I like the bracelet with solid links, end links and machined clasp. I especially like the center link design and finish. It is made thicker to stand out, but instead of going the usual route of making it polished, they made it brushed and polished only the bevels, making for a much more robust look.
The full review will follow, so stay tuned.
