Japan’s JARTS trains 1,000 engineers for Bullet Train; second TBM assembly starts in Mumbai

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is progressing with ongoing underground tunnelling work in Mumbai and technical capacity-building initiatives in Maharashtra. At Sawli near Ghansoli, a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is being assembled in a deep shaft as part of the underground section of the corridor, in line with standard urban tunnelling practices. The machine will be deployed for excavation after completion of assembly, testing, and commissioning activities. In Maharashtra, a training module on slab track construction technology has been conducted in collaboration with Japanese railway technical experts, including Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS), involving around 1,000 engineers for high-speed rail infrastructure development. The MAHSR corridor is India’s first high-speed rail project, being developed with technical cooperation from Japan.
