UK’s Top Women’s Chess Player Is 11, And She’s Beating Grandmasters | APT Sports

Bodhana Sivanandan has become Britain’s top-ranked women’s chess player — at just 11 years old.

Her journey began by chance during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a chess set left behind by a family friend sparked her curiosity. What started as a simple introduction quickly turned into an extraordinary rise through the ranks.

Now rated around 2300 and ranked among the world’s top women players, Bodhana has already made headlines by defeating a grandmaster at the British Chess Championships — becoming one of the youngest to achieve the feat.

Coaches and mentors describe her as a true prodigy, with rapid development fueled by dedication, tournament experience, and a deep love for the game. Her father, who travels with her to competitions around the world, says the focus remains on enjoyment and steady progress.

Despite her success, Bodhana continues to balance chess with school, saying the game helps improve skills in maths, music, and creativity.

Her goal is clear — to become one of the best chess players in the world.
