Olivia Grills a Juicy Lucy Burger For the First Time
Chowhound video producer Olivia shows us how to make and grill a Juicy Lucy at home for the first time. This cheeseburger, with cheese stuffed inside the meat, instead of on top, was allegedly created in Minneapolis in the early 1950’s, and has become an American staple of summer BBQs. Whether you spell it Jucy or Juicy, or if you’re a grilling expert or beginner, this burger is guaranteed to make your barbecue a hit. For her easy recipe, Olivia Webster grill with coals to give it that smoky summer smell and flavor.
Ingredients for the Classic Juicy Lucy with Olivia and Ori’s twist
Each recipe yields 2 burgers
1 lb ground beef
4 slices white cheddar cheese
2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
Meat Rub
2 large brioche burger buns
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature to put on buns
3/4 cup butter lettuce
pickles
Onion sliced to put on grill
Tomato sliced
Olivia's homemade mayo (recipe here: https://trib.al/TjmSczS)
DIRECTIONS
Make 4 ounce balls
Make patties using a pan to flatten to a quarter of an inch
put 2 slices of cheese inside (folded)
Put the other 4 ounce patty on top and mold together
Wrap and chill patties for 20 minutes to so they don’t fall apart
Season the patties with worcester sauce, salt and pepper, onion and garlic pepper on both sides and on the edges. Do this on a tray. Oil the burger so they don’t stick to the grill.
Cook on the grill on high heat for 6 minutes on each side. While they’re grilling toast each side of the brioche bun which prevents the bun from getting soggy!
Grill the onions.
At the end baste the burgers with butter with a brush.
Let them become about 145 degrees inside.
Put some butter, mayo and ketchup, lettuce and tomato on the buns (Have everything ready for the burgers so they’re hot when it’s time to eat them!)
Cut them in half and put a toothpick in each half
Devour your burger!
