Milky Way rises over the Smoky Mountains

Cade’s Cove, Smoky Mountains, TN

Moments like this make me so grateful for all the beauty that Nature has to offer.

As I rode my bike into Cade’s Cove after dusk, I was the only one out there for miles in the quiet. I began photographing at the John Oliver Cabin, the oldest historic cabin from 1818 and watched as the fireflies flicked on and off, alongside the darkness of the woods.

I rode further into the park at midnight and Barred Owls hooted back and forth to one another and the noise of the whip-poor-wills grew louder. Firefly activity picked up at the lone tree that I scouted out in the day time, and the Milky Way began rising over the mountainous horizon. The crescent moon sat hanging in the night and faded in and out with the cloud cover. I stood peacefully as the scene unfolded and my cameras snapped away.

One of those times where you are just happy to be alive.
