Preston, Lancashire. Transport Minister Ernest Marples visits new section of motorway and attends spot checks on lorries on the motorway.
GV The concrete paving plant at work the M6 Motorway. LV Concrete running from conveyor onto another conveyor which pours it into road. SV Concrete being layed by conveyor. LV ditto Pan to Mr Marples standing on "Automatic Screw Spreader". AS Ditto. Pan down to screw at work. LV Automatic leveller at work. SV Mr Marples on the leveller. SV Men levelling off the wet concrete. GV The site. CU Wire broom is dragged across wet concrete to give finished surface. LV Pan Mr Marples watches as broom is dragged across road. GV The site. Pan along the completed section of road to where covers are over part of the road which is drying. SV Mr Marples testing surface of road. GV The site.

LV Lorry being directed into lay-by at Northolt for inspection. Sub Super Scene. LV As lorry goes into lay-by. Sign on grass verge reads "Ministry of Transport Vehicle inspection". GV Lorries lined up being inspected. CU Inspector talking to driver. SV Inspector rattling body work of lorry. CU Inspector checking lights of lorry. SV Lorries lights come on. SV Pan Mr Marples arrives. CU Driver watching. TS Mr Marples inspecting tip-up lorry. CU ditto. CU Driver watching. SV Something wrong being pointed out to Mr Marples. CU Mr Marples watching as inspector checks loose rod. SV Inspector shaking hydraulic tank up and down. TS Mr Marples watching. CU Notice put on windscreen "Examined". GV The queue of lorries that the police will not allow back on road.
