Catan: Starfarers Review — Just 90's Nostalgia?

The popular Catan is now in space! Ships and spaceports have replaced cities and development cards (including knights), and the robber mechanic has been tweaked! Starfarers still has the classic Catan mechanics like trading, dice rolling for resource, and hand management, but is now bigger at 2 hours. You may fight pirates or discovery barren ice planets, and use upgrades to deal with them. Space Catan is also much more expensive, with an MSRP of $100! Is Catan Studio giving a deluxe, more complicated Catan that is worth it? How does this original 1990s design hold up in 2023, in a Catan expansion landscape that includes Seafarers and Traders & Barbarians?
