IDLES Conference 2023 - Decarbonising the UK Energy System
The IDLES Conference brings together academics, researchers, industry representatives and policymakers to discuss developments in energy decarbonisation strategies based on whole systems analysis. Researchers from Imperial College London's IDLES Programme will present the latest findings from their projects, exploring how to facilitate a cost-effective and secure transition to Net Zero. In particular the team will report on the final phase of the Programme’s research, which uses the tools developed in the earlier stages to address some of the big questions facing the energy sector, such as how to cope with prolonged periods of low wind output in a high-RES net-zero system, how far should the UK go with negative emissions technologies and what is the cost of green offshore hydrogen production in UK waters.
The conference will include:
- Briefing Paper Launch: Enabling the UK to Become the Saudi Arabia of Wind? The Cost of Green Hydrogen from Offshore Wind - presented by Dr Malte Jansen followed by a panel discussion.
- A keynote presentation by Carolina Tortora, Head of Digital Transformation and Innovation Strategy at National Grid ESO
- Quickfire poster presentations
