The stage is all set for the 17th Lok Sabha to be led by Narendra Modi. With a majority of the newly elected MPs belong to the BJP and NDA, they will be formally electing Narendra Modi as their leader. This will set in motion the process of the formation of the new government. Newly elected MPs of the BJP-led NDA will meet today to formally elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader. The meeting will take place in the Central Hall of Parliament this evening. Prior to this, BJP MPs will meet separately at Parliament House. Mr Modi is expected to address the MPs following his election as their leader. While the BJP has won 303 seats, the National Democratic Alliance has 351 members in the Lok Sabha. This is the first time that a non-Congress party is taking over at the Centre for the second term consecutively. Mr Modi called on President Ram Nath Kovind yesterday and tendered him and his Council of Ministers' resignations. The President accepted the resignation and asked the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers to continue till a new government is formed.President Ram Nath Kovind later dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha. The Cabinet at its meeting held yesterday had advised the President to dissolve the House with immediate effect. An official communique from Rashtrapati Bhawan said the President has accepted the advice of the Cabinet.After the Cabinet meeting, Mr Modi participated in a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which expressed its gratitude to the Prime Minister.
