The "Wonder of the Age", 1893, big view (silent, still image)

Made to be viewed in 3D using a VR headset.
Image from the New York Public Library's Public Domain Archive (by way of Wikipedia in this case).

This is the original Ferris wheel at the Midway Plaisance at the Worlds Columbian Exposition, AKA Chicago World's Fair, held in 1983.

George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. intended this Ferris Wheel to be America's answer to the Eiffel Tower. While it did not last nearly as long, it certainly did *steel* the show in its day!
I like how its shadows are visible in this image. I still don't think I've properly conveyed its true scale, but making it any larger just flattens the image towards the viewer.

Smaller views of same image, which capture more of the depth of it: https://youtu.be/aHFJyFPgUHI

Source I got it from:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_wonder_of_the_age,_Midway_Plaisance,_World%27s_Columbian_Exposition,_by_Kilburn,_B._W._(Benjamin_West),_1827-1909_2.png

I worked on it prior to realizing it has an earlier source at NYPL, but I think the quality is likely the same.

NYPL has a few versions of it online, one of them here:
