Buying a house with a pool does not magically make you the neighborhood water park. The previous owners may have run a backyard community center, but that does not mean the membership transfers with the deed. The entitlement here is absolutely soaked.

In today’s story, OP and their spouse buy a non-HOA home with a private pool and quickly find out the neighbors have some very bold expectations. Apparently the old owners let everyone come and go, the gate stayed open, and the neighborhood treated the pool like a shared amenity. But OP and their spouse are private people and keep saying no, only for multiple neighbors to keep pushing, offering money, following OP around the yard, and bringing up pool access every single time they interact. Even while OP is hosting friends, one neighbor still pops up to make a passive-aggressive comment about not being invited to swim.

So what do you think. Is OP being too harsh, or are these neighbors wildly out of line for treating a private backyard like a community pool? And how many times would you say no before you stopped being polite?
