Ibex hunting in Tajikistan is a tough mountain hunting experience, not for the faint-hearted!

About 93% of Tajikistan's territory is occupied by mountains, and about half of that territory lies at an altitude of over 3000 meters! Imagine how physical a mountain hunt here can be... Some people use jeeps, and It gets to be a point where you are no longer hunting, but only functioning as the shooter while the guide hunts. However, at Huntourage we only believe in fair chase and well-deserved trophies.

Upon landing for a hearty breakfast in Dushanbe, we immediately set off to the base camp. The drive took us a total of 9 hours: 6 hours on asphalt roads, followed by 3 hours in an old Soviet military truck. Of course, there was no network coverage, no electricity, no shower, except for some freezing water from a snow-fed river next door. Call it home for the next five hunting days!

As the fog rolled in, it was impossible to see past a hundred meters anywhere... It was a total whiteout! The first couple of hunting days were in Vain, except that we had a couple of great hikes while looking for fresh tracks (which were everywhere) to follow when it clears up!⁠

The fourth hunting day was the toughest! Hiking in deep snow, along the shores of an almost frozen river is no walk in the park. Throw in some elevation and you’ll be at a much slower pace! But It wasn't too long before our guide 'Mehroj' suddenly stopped and told everyone to freeze. Slowly looking through the binos, the ibex had been already looking down at us from the skyline, 550 meters away... The rest is in the above video!
