Comedy's Dying - Comics EXPOSE Brutal Truth About Stage Time & Pay!

The video discusses the challenges and changes in the comedy industry, focusing on pay, overcrowding at shows, and the future outlook for comedians.
[25:06-26:05]
Four comedians discuss the decline in earnings for headliners, noting that while East Coast comedians have opportunities, comedy clubs have become stingier.
I've talked to a lot of some pretty significant headliners out there who you were used to making uh i don't want to say but we're talking in the tens of thousands and now it's down to less than five thousand for headliners and stuff so it seems like uh the more people get into it the more um and i'm not gonna put cause and effect on this but it just seems like comedy clubs are just getting uh stingier what's your take on this i mean i mean I mean, comedy clubs always, like, sucked in the pay department, in my honest opinion, but I feel like if you're an East Coast, like, comic, there should be no, like, complaint necessarily about pay, because the advantage that East Coast comics have, especially in New York City, even though it's, like, 25 dollars a spot, it's, like, 70 comedy clubs on one, you know, strip, so you get past that enough clubs, do a spot, you're walking home at the end of the night anywhere between a hundred to three hundred bucks, and also you got neighboring states to drive to, you know? Yeah.
[26:05-26:27]
The narrator critiques the overcrowding of comedy shows, stating that having too many performers dilutes the quality of the event.
That drives me crazy when you see it. Because there's too many on the show. Like, 3 is good. 5 is tolerable. 7 is just fucking way too many people. Stop. Stop. At some point, just for the sake of the business, you have to say, sorry, the bill is full.
[26:27-27:40]
Performers discuss the issue of stage time and pay disparities, expressing concerns about low compensation and the pessimistic trends in the comedy industry.
We can't give you 3 minutes or whatever. Everybody wants stage time, people doing favors and all that kind of stuff. but and also it gets to be predatory right because they pay the features what uh for a hundred and fifty bucks or something yeah like a hundred hundred fifty bucks yeah and then these people who would these 7 people they're not all getting that 150 bucks some of them are getting a handshake so it's just not good for the industry i don't know it's not a handshake it's an opportunity right an opportunity for a handshake or is it consulting oh we're gonna consult them about an opportunity for a handshake yeah so what's your now because you're a young man still uh the Are you optimistic for the comedy? Obviously you are. You're going to LA, you got some, but what I just described there is not a very optimistic scene for the industry of comedy. It seems like it's going on a downhill trend where for years it was going on an uphill trend and people were making more money. But that's the best way to build when the ground, you know, when everything's demolished. Buy the dip? Are you telling me to buy the dip? I'm saying, man, definitely buy in low right now. Because you got to think about it.
