I Called My Mom That Same Day
I was stunned.
I saw this guy teaching cooking. And I always refer to that guy. A lot of chefs refer to chefs. I have chefs that influenced me later on. But definitely this guy struck me so much about the way he was teaching cooking.
I remember calling my mom that same day and saying "You know what? That's exactly what I want to do."
The passion that I imagined I could have for cooking started on that day and never stopped since.
Most chefs talk about the restaurants that inspired them. The Michelin stars. The famous kitchens. The legendary chefs.
But Paul Pairet's moment? It was a teacher. Teaching cooking in a way that made him stop and call his mom immediately.
Not the technique. Not the food. The way he was teaching.
That's when he knew. That day. And it never stopped.
The moments that change your career aren't always dramatic. Sometimes it's just watching someone do something and thinking "That. That's what I want to do."
What was the moment you called your mom?
