Mixing the [SM 57: If you only had ONE MIC] (To record your ENTIRE BAND!)

We recently did a video on recording your band with just one mic, the SM57. In this video I go through how I mixed that song you heard in the video. I'm using Pro Tools here, however you can use any DAW, and any plugin you like. I'm not going through anything specific that can not be recreated with any plugins that you happen to have.

The Shure SM57 is possibly the most widely known microphones in musical history. Getting its start all the way back with some of the first Shure engineers in 1937 under the Unidyne name. Its hard not to recognize the greatness this mic has captured in some of the records that changed music history. But its somehow easy to overlook this mic. Its just so common. We’ve seen it so many times. Its been around as far back as most of us can think.

Which begs the question.
Is the Shure SM 57 still relevant? Can it not only be relevant. But handle recording a band. All on its own?
