During a Senate Commerce subcommittee hearing, whistleblower Frances Haugen called for transparency about how Facebook entices users to extend their stay on the site. In her testimony, Haugen emphasised the power held by Facebook that is tightly woven into the daily lives of billions of users. Haugen claims that several foreign governments used the social network to track their enemies. Haugen claims that China was using the platform for surveilling the Uyghur population around the world.
