A Sudoku That Teaches You A Discovery

A very clever sudoku today that teaches you something you probably didn't know and/or realise! The puzzle's called Downward Spiral and it's by a collection of setters calling themselves The Sudoku Skunkworks (!). We believe the 'skunkworks' is made up of Virtual, Sotek, XeonRisq, Bremster, Riffclown, and Eclectic Hoosier. Give it a try at the link below:

Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits on a purple line must be a set of consecutive, non-repeating digits in any order. Cells separated by a black dot contain digits with a 1:2 ratio. Cells separated by a white dot must contain consecutive digits. Not all possible dots are given.
