The Burial Chamber | Opening the shrine doors and discovering the quartzite sarcophagus
One of the most exciting moments while retrieving the tomb’s treasures was opening the large, still partially sealed, shrines in Tutankhamun’s burial chamber. Here, Howard Carter (kneeling), Arthur Callender, and an Egyptian workman in the burial chamber look at the quartzite sarcophagus through the open doors of the four gilded shrines.
