Although 2020 was one of the most challenging years in our institution’s history, together we found a way to keep the dream alive. Barter Theatre began during the days of the Great Depression, with Robert Porterfield’s dream of professional theatre here in Southwest Virginia. His dream has continued to light our way year after year! Barter Theatre has endured many challenges over our 87 year history but tenacity is in our DNA.
