Aldebaran's companion star defies our expectations

Aldebaran has a rogue companion star orbiting it, a red dwarf only 3.2 astronomical units away. Located 65 light-years from Earth, Aldebaran is 44 times the size of our Sun and shines 425 times brighter, despite being cooler at around 3,900 degrees Celsius. This giant star, known as the Eye of Taurus, is in its dying stages, and its deceptive brightness makes it a fascinating subject for astronomers. Beyond Aldebaran lies the vast star cluster called the Hyades, presenting opportunities for further exploration. Follow Deep Sky Daily for a new space discovery every day.
