USS Texas and the Tampico Affair
Just months before the assassination of Franz Ferdinand would begin the July Crisis, a minor incident in the city of Tampico nearly sparked a war between the US and its southern neighbor. The incident represented the beginning of the active service of USS Texas to be a part of a diplomatic action against the dictatorial regime of Victoriano Huerta. The largely overlooked Tampico incident could have resulted in war, and did affect world politics for years to come.
