How I learned Bahasa Indonesia

This is how I learned bahasa Indonesia. Using this method I was functional within 90 days and close to fluent within one year. Of course I continue to learn new things everyday, and the newspaper still contains some words I don't understand (in Indonesian OR English). But the point is you'll be speaking Indonesian very quickly. The biggest factor I guess is how much time you spend with Indonesians, many of my bule friends who hang out with the bule crowd in their spare time cannot speak Indonesian very well. That's why I avoided blues for several years. It's the same advice I'd give to Indonesians studying abroad. Don't hang out with Indonesians, and you'll learn more. Good luck!
