Veterans Minister says the meaning of ANZAC Day continues to evolve

As ANZAC Day approaches, Veterans and Associate Defence Minister Chris Penk heads to Niue to pay tribute to the country’s deep military legacy and reinforce ties between New Zealand and the Pacific.

In an interview with Pacific Mornings on 531pi, Penk talks about: The enduring sacrifice of Niuean soldiers in both World Wars; How ANZAC remembrance is evolving; The growing geopolitical pressure in the Pacific, and China’s influence; Why New Zealand must remain a strong, present, and principled partner; The future of defence spending, national readiness, and humanitarian roles in the region.

Penk also responds to calls for greater Pacific military recognition and emphasises the shared duty to remember, protect, and support those who serve.
