Ben Nevis via the CMD arete

Ben Nevis, The UK's highest mountain!

There are many ways to the summit of Ben Nevis, the most popular being the Mountain Track from Glen Nevis. We opted for the gruelling Horseshoe route taking in Carn Dearg Meadhonach, Carn Mor Dearg, a traverse of the arête and finally The Ben itself.

The absolute wonder of this route is that all along the main ascent of Carn Dearg Meadhonach and CMD + the arête, you get to view all the angles of the 700+ metre cliffs of the infamous North Face (Ben Nevis). It was during our scrambly hike around this glorious massif that I dared myself to one day take on the Tower Ridge route.....

We were staying on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond for a week and I kept my beedy eye on the Ben Nevis weather forecast, by the Wednesday of our weeks holiday there was a clear day forecast for Thursday so we sorted our kit out and had an early night.

Excuse some of the audio, the GoPro mic is a sensitive soul and I have tried to blend in some fitting background music to drown out the very gusty winds!
