In Conversation with Sir Philip Rutnam: Futureproofing the Public Service
Leadership lessons to help you respond to an ever-changing sector
Leadership is about responding to hard times, to challenging circumstances. The roles of the civil service and wider public service are changing, and being able to navigate this confidently is going to be key to future-proofing the sector.
Our Wellbeing & Resilience Associate Director, Kat Thorne, will be in conversation with Sir Philip Rutnam on Wednesday 8th November 2023, at 3pm. Sir Philip was one of the most senior civil servants in the UK for nearly a decade, as Permanent Secretary at the Department for Transport and the Home Office, and briefly at the Department for Business.
Join us for this important and engaging conversation about how to use these much-needed leadership lessons and apply them to our own roles within the public sector.
● The journey to become a senior leader in the Civil Service
● Expectations of senior leadership
● Building capability within a large organisation and across public service
Bio: Sir Philip Rutnam was Permanent Secretary in Whitehall for nearly a decade, at the Department for Transport, the Home Office, and before that for a while at the Department for Business. He previously worked in investment banking in Hong Kong. Outside work he is a keen long-distance runner.
Philip is currently the Chair of the National Churches Trust, the UK’s national charity for church buildings. Among other things, he is also chairing a project to develop a major health and science campus in Oxford and sits on the Council of the University of Surrey.
