VO Script:

You might get the impression that the worlds of electric unicycles and Onewheels, are like oil and water, Capulets and Montagues, England and New Jersey.

At big group rides, Onewheels often get left back due to the speed of electric unicycles and skateboards. At least…philosophically speaking.

When it comes to range, even the XR doesn't really hold a candle to something like a Gotway Monster or the gorgeous Ninebot Z10.

But really what it comes down to is that we all like rolling around on a big ol' wheel that can ride off road and plug right in.

The cool thing about the PEV world is that there is often a bit of crossover that happens. Eskate riders try Onewheels, Onewheel riders try EUCs, and occasionally an electric scooter enters the mix.

If it's electric and fun, chances are good we'll try it at least once.

Now, I had been a fan of Hsiang's content for a while. I just dig his style and the presentation of his vlog. If you have any interest in electric unicycle content, give his videos a look. I think you'll like them.

Anyway, we agreed to meet up, hang out, and do a little collaboration. He tries the Onewheel Pint and the XR, and I try…well, an electric unicycle. Hsiang was kind enough to bring a smaller, less intimidating wheel, the IPC…something or other. I'm glad he did though, because the Gotway Monster he rides has a 22" tire, and weighs approximately 47 metric tons.

Not going to lie…it scared me. Especially after seeing what happens if you misstep with the smaller wheel… *slow mo twisty foot clip*
So I spent some time trying out the unicycle, and it DEFINITELY has a steep learning curve. I can see the appeal though, and it certainly has a charm too it that is far and away another vibe entirely from the Onewheel.

I enjoyed chilling with Hsiang and getting some footage. And more to the point of this video…Hsiang seemed to have a good time trying the Onewheel…

A prominent difference between the Onewheel and EUC is that the Onewheel uses sensors to engage the motor when you get on. The unicycle's motor is (generally) engaged when you power it up. So the notion of dismount is something very different. Unfortunately, the reality of the Pint's tire size and board size came to the surface, and resulted in a less than stable footing.

Moving on to the XR, Hsiang found some much appreciated stability and riding enjoyment.

Now I don't think I've ever really been much of a "spread the stoke" type of person. The whole 'ambassador for a brand I don't work for' thing never suited me personally. However, this crosses over into a grey area, and I like to think of it more as an occasion of two aspects of electric vehicle ownership enjoying commonality and generally having a good time.

Clearly, I need way more practice on the unicycle. If I owned one, I'd probably give it more of the ol' college try. Currently dropping that kind of money on something nice like a KS16X or an Msuper Pro isn't in the cards right now. It might be in the future, though, so there's that.

Either way, I always enjoy a good excuse to meet a fellow YouTuber, a fellow PEV rider, and just chill.

It totally beats seeing another rider randomly on the street and trying not to have an accident while waving them down as if they were another member of a rare species.
