Aspirants revising entire syllabus while paper already doing India tour 🚂
The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Ministry of Education have announced major decisions regarding the NEET UG 2026 exam following its cancellation.
📅 Re-Exam Dates and Schedule-
New Exam Date: Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Admit Card Release: By June 14, 2026
Extended Exam Duration: The NTA has extended the exam timing by 15 minutes. The re-test will run from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM to compensate for time lost during mandatory biometric and verification formalities.
📍 Logistics, Centers, and Fees
Choice of Exam City: Acknowledging that many students have returned home or moved after coaching sessions ended, the government is allowing candidates to modify their preferred examination city/center via a dedicated portal.
No Extra Fee: Candidates do not need to re-register. The original registration data stands, and the NTA has announced that the fees already paid for the May 3 exam will be refunded to the students.
Weather Contingencies: Since the re-exam is scheduled during the monsoon season, authorities are putting alternative logistical arrangements in place to avoid severe weather disruptions.
🔍 Cancellation and CBI Investigation
The Cause: The original exam conducted on May 3, 2026 (for around 22.79 lakh candidates), was cancelled on May 12 after law enforcement agencies uncovered a highly accurate “guess paper” leak originating in Rajasthan.
CBI Probe & Arrests: CBI has arrested multiple accused individuals across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
Inside Source: The CBI informed a Delhi court that the paper leak has been traced back to an insider source within the NTA system.
🔄 Future Policy Changes
Shift to Online Mode: While the June 21 re-exam will remain in the traditional offline pen-and-paper format, NEET UG will transition entirely to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode starting from
2027 to prevent physical paper leak.
