Stokes trains with heavily strapped knee as England gear up for first Ashes Test

England captain Ben Stokes led his side through training on Thursday on the eve of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Stokes bowled on the Edgbaston wicket with heavy strapping on his knee after appearing to recover from a longstanding injury.

After a brief game of 'headers' England gently trained in the Birmingham sunshine after Stokes and coach Brendan McCullum opted to start with Stuart Broad over Mark Wood.

35-year-old Moeen Ali looked relaxed as he looks to play his first match since coming out of Test retirement to answer England’s SOS call after Jack Leach was ruled out with a back injury.
