For decades, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at odds over control of Nagorno-Karabakh. We are talking about a region of 4,400 square kilometers populated by 150,000 people. Officially it is in Azerbaijani territory but almost all the population are ethnic Armenians.

Between 1988 and 1994, the Nagorno-Karabakh War took the lives of 30,000 people and forced more than one million Armenians and Azeris to leave the land they had lived on for centuries. This war ended with a ceasefire and, since then, skirmishes and small clashes have been the norm. Now, in 2020, tensions between Baku and Yerevan have again escalated into open warfare that has already resulted in thousands of deaths.

One of the main causes of the latest escalation of this conflict has been Turkey's involvement. The Erdogan government is supporting the Azerbaijani dictatorship without reservation. And this military support has emboldened Baku to launch this new offensive. Neither Russia nor NATO are taking either side. Why? What are the causes of this conflict? Are we really talking about an invasion of Azerbaijan into Armenian territory or is there something else at play? In this video, we answer these questions.
