Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in Thattekad is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala and is spread over 25 square Kilometers in Thattekad , a small village near to Western ghats . Thattekad bird sanctuary is located 12 km away from the city of Kothamangalam and is at a distance of 55 km form main city of kochi.
A birding haven, the Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary in Ernakulam is home to innumerable species of birds. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded here and is the ideal place for birders and nature enthusiasts. It was Dr. Salim Ali, the Birdman of India and world-renowned ornithologist who recognized the unique avian life in Thattekkad.
