ACCRA STADIUM REQUIRE MORE WORK FOR AWCON 2018

The Accra Sports Stadium, which is one of the host venues for the 2018 Total women’s Africa Cup of nations , will be opened on November 11 when the Black Queens engage the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in a pre-tournament friendly.

According to sources, the facility will be ready before the 2018 Women’s Championship kicks start on November 17 and the friendly game will be used to test the readiness of the facility ahead of the big tournament.

The Accra Sports stadium, which was fast deteriorating since it was last renovated for the CAN 2008, was shut down for about seven months ago to allow revamping works to be done on the facility ahead of the Total women’s AWCON to be staged in Ghana.

There has been a lot of the talk on the readiness of the facility ahead of the competition but officials in charge of the renovation insist everything will be set and ready before November 17.

According to officials , a whooping GHC 12.5 million have been spent on the renovation of the stadium.

Ghana is hosting seven other African countries in the 11th edition of the Women’s Cup of Nations which also serves as qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA women’s world cup in France.

The Accra sports stadium and the Cape Coast stadium have been earmarked to host the tournament. Ghana and the rest of group A members[ Algeria,Mali and Cameroon] will be based in Accra whiles defending champions Nigeria who are in group B with South Africa, Zambia and Kenya will be based in Cape Coast.
