Appalachian Trail, Day 016: Newfound Gap to Peck’s Corner Shelter (also tagged 6000-foot summit Mount Kephart), 11.4 mi (18.3 km), 2717 vert ft (828 vert m)

Running various errands in Gatlinburg took a bit longer than expected but that’s just how life is in general. I have learned long ago to avoid scheduling things too tightly

As a result of that, I did not get to Newfound Gap until after 2pm (14:00). I knew I was not going to get very far today, but unlike the 1st 2 weeks on the Trail, I did not yet have a specific plan for where I would try to attend Mass this coming weekend. Without too much of the Smokies left to deal with, and without that massive 36.5 mi (58.7 km) stretch of forest between Dick’s Creek Gap (access to Clayton GA) and Rock Gap (access to Franklin NC), I simply have more flexibility now to be more chill. You could even say I have a “License To Chill!” We shall see how this week plays out
