BARONESS - John Baizley interview @Linea Rock 2019 by Barbara Caserta

October 14th 2019: BARONESS are back to Milano, opening the show for Volbeat at Fabrique! BARBARA CASERTA jumped on the band’s tour bus for LINEA ROCK to meet JOHN DYER BAIZLEY, mastermind & leader extraordinaire of this prog metal unit, one of those so well-respected bands in the world! Smart, intelligent, talented, brilliant, smiling to our eyes and gentle to our ears but what kind of leader is John in the band? Democracy pays off so far or somebody has to be in control of the clear vision? Is he demanding and bossy since the group changed so many members in the 16 years of its story? Did he live every change of line up as adding a new piece to the puzzle or loosing someway a piece? He’s got a pretty wise and strong vision of the team work infact… And did guitarist Gina - first lady in Baroness - bring extra balance or extra turmoil within the group? How the punk spirit and wild attitude of his early days – actually so distant from progressive discipline - influenced Baroness path? After five chromatically themed albums, paiting their music with the colors of the rainbow, “Gold & Grey” is ending that cycle (with two G-colors that are so opposite): why now and what is next? How will the visuals keep on form an integral part of Baroness musical language? The “Blue Record” is considered such a milestone: does John agree or he has a different “favourite color”? His explanation of the essence of each color/album is very interesting… About the road, Baroness shared the stage with lot of bands, from Metallica to Meshuggah: big tours are “the deal” or smaller situations with a core audience in the long run are the best in their perspective? And did that “close-to-death-experience” in the bus-crash from 2012 affect someway his approach to touring? His deep reflection on it is very touching and mature… and here you’ll discover also some of the toughest jobs John did before becoming a full time musician and why this was the only way for him to survive!
