Sofía Dorotea de Brunswick-Luneburgo nació el 15 de septiembre de 1666 fue la hija sobreviviente de Jorge Guillermo, duque de Brunswick-Luneburgo y de Leonor Desmier de Olbreuse. Se caso con el futuro Jorge I de gran Bretaña pero paso los últimos 35 años de su vida encerrada por adulterio, fue la madre de Jorge II .
