Chula Vista police arrested one driver for suspected DUI at a Friday night checkpoint. The DUI driver’s-license checkpoint was conducted in the 300 block of East H Street from 6 p.m. to midnight. Of 4,310 vehicles passing through, 795 were screened and two drivers underwent field sobriety tests. One driver was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs; two vehicles were impounded. Four citations were issued for driving while unlicensed or suspended. The CVPD said DUI checkpoints are based on reported impaired-driving crashes and aim to remove suspected impaired drivers to boost road safety. Funding for the checkpoint came through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. No further details were provided. The operation was part of ongoing city efforts to reduce impaired driving and related crashes. Authorities did not report any additional arrests beyond the DUI arrest.
