Marking the observance of June 18, a day remembered for the sacrifice of 18 martyrs who laid down their lives in defence of Manipur’s territorial integrity in 2001, Arambai Tenggol Unit 18 organized a cleanliness drive along Uripok Kangchup Road on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Arambai Tenggol Unit 18 Commanding Officer Kherson Thoudam described June 18 as a deeply emotional and historic day for the people of Manipur. He recalled that the announcement of the “without territorial limits” clause by the Government of India had triggered widespread public outrage, leading to the June 18 uprising in which 18 brave individuals sacrificed their lives to safeguard the state’s territorial integrity.

He stated that the sacrifices made by the martyrs for their motherland would never be forgotten and would continue to inspire present and future generations. The cleanliness drive was organized as a tribute to the 18 martyrs and their unwavering commitment to the cause of Manipur, he added.

During the programme, volunteers cleaned stretches of Uripok Kangchup Road and appealed to local residents to maintain cleanliness in the area. They urged the public not to treat public roads as dumping grounds and requested households to refrain from disposing of waste along the roadside.

The event was attended by members of Arambai Tenggol Unit 18 and local residents of the area.
