Istanbul, the beginning of the XIX century. Anna, the daughter of one of the workers in the Embassy of the Russian Empire, accidentally meets the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. Impressed by the girl's intelligence and knowledge, the padishah invites her to work as a teacher for his children, but she initially refuses and concedes only after Russian Ambassador Dmitry starts to press her. While Anna is working in the Palace, she realizes that she is beginning to fall in love with Mahmud. But she is faced with a lot of problems, because the children of the Sultan don't obey the stranger, and the inhabitants of the harem perceive her as a rival. There is a reason for this: Mahmud also falls in love with a new teacher.
