Alleged racism by the fourth official marred Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir’s Champions League encounter, which saw both clubs walk off the pitch in protest. Demba Ba and other members of Basaksehir squad confronted fourth official Sebastian Coltescu of Romania for using a racial slur against assistant coach Pierre Webo. ESPN FC’s Shaka Hislop says it’s time for clubs, confederations, UEFA and FIFA to recognize the moment we’re “and all their pitfalls.” Hislop calls for more sensitivity training otherwise “these discussions will continue to happen.” He applauds the unified action of both clubs while Frank Leboeuf calls the effort “absolutely fantastic” to suspend the match.
