2021 Trek Rail 7 Second Review at Horns Hill

Riding my 2021 Trek Rail 7 at Horns Hill on the Upper Jurassic trail.

The Trek Rail 7 is highly rated: EMTB 2020 shootout winner, The Loam Wolf and Rob Rides EMTB both rate the Trek Rail highly. I now have a couple rides in on my Rail 7 and can understand the positive reviews. This is a fun and agile bike that "feels" much lighter in motion. The quick handling gives it a playful character on the tight trails. The suspension is surprisingly capable and works fine for me even on the rocky sections of the Upper Jurassic trail. The base chassis and motor/battery combo is so good it is worth upgrading to higher end components if you want.

The Good:
1. The 29" wheels make the bike feel fast and roll over the bumps effortlessly.
2. The low bottom bracket height and short rear chain stays give this bike a planted yet playful and lively handling character.
3. The Bosch CX4 motor is powerful yet has a smooth and natural pedal assist response and E-MTB mode that is a set it and forget it along with an easy to remove 625Wh battery with plenty of riding range (even in Turbo mode). The E-MTB mode is a great set it and forget it ride mode as it responds from Eco to Turbo levels of assist automatically though I tend to ride in Turbo mode most of the time.
4. Paint looks amazing

The Could be Better:
1. The dropper seat post needs another 20mm of travel
2. Bosch display has limited information and is big and clunky looking

The Rail 7 is a fun to ride and agile handling E-MTB that is feels like a regular MTB. Looking forward to more rides soon!
