PVC tape shelf upgrades & review (plan in desc.)

After a handful of years, I can say with a straight face that this tape shelf is worth building. Not that you would be able to tell. But seriously, what would be my motive for misleading you?

In a related personal aside, I try to maintain a zero-tolerance no-lying policy. It has come at great personal expense to me. Most recently, it was around two years ago that I was last pressured into telling one, but you would likely agree that it was highly justifiable. Not to mention that it was coerced by some ridiculously thoughtless corporate policy. Such machinery can be uncaring, which is why we must be careful not to wear loose clothing around it. The predicament actually caused me to lose sleep. Lies of omission are not necessarily untruths. For example, you don't need to know about my previous lives. It's sufficient for you to know that I like to tinker in my spare time. Besides, I'm also a reformed monster, the extent to which you wouldn't like to believe. Such an admission probably surprises you somewhat, considering that I've just admitted to having experienced some girly nighttime tossing-and-turning over a rather trivial fib. Such is the nature of the mind's development, kid. Ethical study is not just a navel-gaze at some bull's drop; it is genuinely possible for one to really start to internalize just how much one's silly little affect on this place can be, and as a result, develop a wont for change. But you're starting to drift back to your real life now; you're admitting that my argument might be sound, but that its utility is lacking in such a screwy world. Okay, I'll follow you there; let's imagine that you and I are now looking up at the stars, and one of us mentions that many of these specks are entire galaxies. Italicize this in your head:

The universe is so big, while I'm so small and meaningless in comparison.

Let fools act like Sisyphus in their attempt to make the world honest, right? I want to enjoy some comfort while I'm here, and not sacrifice at the expense of those who would not do so for me. Geez. I understand. But futility is a thought-terminating cliché. Would not suicide be rational then, if the result will always be the same in any case? Of course you would be terminal, if there were a you. But there is no you, at least not in the 'self' sense; there is only the outward ripples that come from where you seem to 'be.' Dualism is a dead philosophy. Your little waves matter more than you do. What you do here really does have lasting consequence that is beyond your own experience. While it might seem small at its outset, your act just keeps on reverberating, endlessly. Each breath forces millions of atomic collisions to take place, and each of those snap in and out of new, novel alignments as a result. There are no neutral spectators here. Every action has its consequence, even as an inaction. Any string plucked on this infinite web causes the whole to oscillate. And in this way, some stupid, tribal, customarily-forced recompense, which is often nothing more than an emotionally frustrated retribution, ends up echoing back and forth over generations as it keeps us all locked in indefinite suspension. And we, as our own victims, here remain in its nauseating sin wave, without progress, in a sort of dark age. Overcompensation begets overcompensation begets the like. As a small part of this process, telling a lie maintains a Tragedy-of-the-Commons result in our world. It makes it a worse place to live in. If you're smart enough to have finished reading this, then you're smart enough to know that it's true. Fess up to your problems, softy. Evasions of them are for cowards*. So yeah, I meant it when I said it's a pretty good tape shelf.
*Cases of self-preservation notwithstanding. You know, a Gun's to your head, and so on. Those are tough arguments.
